Several years ago I boarded the Red Line earlier, and rode the rails across Cambridge and beneath Boston to South Station, exiting on the street and walking into the wondrous world of Chinatown. On Chinese New Year, the lions dance and firecrackers explode, drums sound. Color, noise, excitement is everywhere, cutting through the cold and welcoming the new year.
