As I sit here at my desk, I can hear the rush of the wind and the sound of the rain this early morning. In just a few short hours, winter will be over, a long, arduous winter that brought snowstorm after snowstorm, cold temperatures, and a general sense of malaise amongst us on Cape Cod.

However, at 12:47 this afternoon, the vernal equinox will be upon us, and we can wave goodbye to the season of snow and cold. But Mother Nature doesn’t always follow our calendar, and we may still have cold temperatures or even snow to deal with. Somehow, though, knowing the sun is making its way back is enough to lift one’s spirits a tad.

Today’s image is from a walk in the woods in Sandwich this past December, a rare raw and warm day that I spent traipsing through the forest, watching the trees reach out towards the sky.
